Is My Body Contact Cable Defective?

Is my violet wand defective? Is my violet wand product defective?

Violet wands require some learning. I get a number of emails from buyers who are concerned that their violet wand product is defective or not functioning properly, when it turns out that the only problem is unfamiliarity with its operation and natural behaviors. Remember we ARE playing with electricity, and electricity flows like water. Sometimes, you’re going to get splashed with a spark.

IS MY BODY CONTACT CABLE DEFECTIVE?

The short answer is no. There’s very little that can go wrong with a long piece of coated cable. If electricity is coming out of it when you plug it in the wand, then it is working as its supposed to. Plug your cable into the wand. Turn on the wand. Touch the far end of the cable.  If you get a spark then its working as intended.

I get a spark when I am using the body contact cable and touch the wand to turn it off. Is my body contact cable defective?

No. When you are using the body contact cable and Indirect, YOU are electrified. When you go to touch the wand, you -send- a spark to the wand’s knob spindle. Touch a doorknob, same thing will happen, you will send a spark to the doorknob when you go to turn it. The spark feels exactly the same whether it is coming or going, which is why we can do Reverse or Indirect techniques. Some people like to use a footswitch to avoid this type of kickback.

When I touch the insulated part of the body contact cable, I get a spark. Is my body contact cable defective?

No. Violet wand electricity is high frequency and high voltage and it can pass through most substances. It can travel through an entire human body (which is why we can do Indirect and Reverse). It can travel through many layers of leather. It can travel through wood. It can travel through rubber, vinyl, plastic. The purpose of the coating on the body contact cable is not to keep the spark inside, but to keep more of the electricity flowing to the business end instead of dissipating off into the surrounding air as an electrical field. Yes, you are going to get a spark when you touch the cable anywhere. Manage your cable’s position just as you would manage your flogger tails- be aware of where they are.

I can hear sparking from my body contact cable and there is a spark I can see down inside my body contact cable when I take the little cap off and look inside it. Is my body contact cable defective?

No. The electricity is traveling through the cable to the handle. The spark you see and hear is jumping the gap that are part of some violet wand accessories’ designs. This type of gap is known as a ‘safety gap’ because it adds an extra layer of safety on top of all the other safety factors and is in case you use your body contact cable with an ungrounded antique. So if you hear or see a spark or even if you don’t, it’s not defective.  It’s just born that way.

The handle of my body contact cable heats up. Is my body contact cable defective?

No. Any time a spark jumps, it generates a small amount of heat. Let it cool down while you play with something else.

When Im using my body contact cable I feel an uncomfortable spark. Is my body contact cable defective?

No. Everyone is different and electricity affects everyone differently. Some people’s bodies are even more conductive than others. Make sure your body contact cable is tight against your skin. Switch it to your waistband, make sure your skin is dry. If trying different locations doesn’t work for you, use it Reverse.

Ok, when IS my body contact cable defective?

When part of it falls off.
