The High Frequency
High Frequency beauty devices are modern made machines which also were based on antique violet rays. They are made by and for the beauty industry to treat the skin and scalp. You can go into any full-service spa and get a high frequency facial, and there are some portable versions such as this one shown.
Sizes and frequency differ widely, but the output is low, low, low since they are made to pamper women getting facial massages. Portable beauty high-frequency devices all made outside of the US, hence the difficulty in sizing to American violet wands. Some machines may be able to accept violet wand electrodes. However, the output of these beauty high frequency devices is always just a very light tingling. Some provide no sensation at all. This makes them unacceptable for kinky play, but great for getting an oxygenating facial.
Unscrupulous kink sellers can try to pawn one of these high frequencies off on you, since they are easy to come by from any beauty supplier. One example of a violet wand 'fake' was the short-lived 'iWAND'. This high frequency device was sold on the kink market during 2007 until kinky consumers received their packages and were disgusted by the lack of output. Once they got wise to the seller, he had to turn to selling a violetwand 'ebook' in another effort to pull the wool over unsuspecting eyes.
Confusing the issue, is that some high frequencies are now starting to come in black, perhaps as an attempt of beauty suppliers to cash in on the kinkmarket. But no matter how they might try to look like them, these imposters are not violet wands. This is unfortunate, because the black high frequency shown at left would fool anyone until they turned it on.
Electrodes for the beauty devices are always soda-lime glass and very fragile, but can come in interesting shapes. You might find some of these metric electrodes close to the 7/16" violetwand size and be able to use them with your violet wand, though you will need to be much more careful of breakage with them than you would have to be with violet wand electrodes. They just can't take the abuse that real violet wand electrodes are built for.
Verdict: Far too soft. Electrodes are problematic. Great for your skin and scalp so keep it in your bathroom closet where it belongs.
